Draft for review. Publisher details and marked placeholders remain to be completed.

Last revised 9 October 2026

Who we are

New Queer is an independent magazine exploring queer life, culture and the spaces in between. The publisher and controller of personal information is [PUBLISHER LEGAL NAME], based in [COUNTRY], at [POSTAL ADDRESS]. Contact us at hi@newqueer.com. [ADD A DATA PROTECTION CONTACT OR REPRESENTATIVE IF REQUIRED].

This draft describes the current editorial website. Publisher details, service providers, legal bases and retention periods must be completed before public launch. It does not describe future reader accounts, paid subscriptions, advertising or newsletters as existing services.

Information you provide

When you use our contact form, we receive the name, email address, enquiry topic, message and any other answers requested by that form. We also record when the message was received and a submission reference. These answers are stored in our editorial CMS and can be reviewed by authorised staff. The on-screen receipt confirms storage; automated email delivery is not currently enabled.

If you email us, your email provider and our eventual mailbox provider will handle that correspondence. [CONFIRM THE EMAIL PROVIDER AND MAILBOX RETENTION BEFORE ENABLING THE MAILBOX].

Please share only what is needed for your enquiry. Avoid including private details about other people without their permission. Queer stories can involve sensitive information about identity, health or sexual orientation. Before requesting or using that information for an editorial project, we must agree the relevant permissions and establish any additional legal conditions that apply. Sending a message is not blanket permission to publish it.

How information is used

We use enquiries to read and respond to questions, assess pitches and discuss possible editorial work. We use limited technical information to operate the website, diagnose faults and restrict abusive requests. [CONFIRM THE LAWFUL BASIS FOR ENQUIRIES, SECURITY AND ANY SENSITIVE EDITORIAL INFORMATION UNDER THE APPLICABLE LAW].

The current site does not add contact senders to a marketing list, create reader accounts, process payments or run advertising or third-party analytics scripts. These features are not active. This notice must be updated before new uses of personal information are introduced.

Browser storage

The new-queer-archive-view cookie remembers whether you selected List or Grid. It contains that display preference, rather than your name or contact details, and is set for up to one year. Changing the view replaces its value. You can remove it through your browser settings; the archive then returns to its default view.

The new-queer:intro-seen:v1 session-storage entry remembers that the introduction has played in that browser tab. Session storage normally ends with that tab's browser session. Staff sign-in uses separate authentication/session storage; ordinary readers do not need to sign in.

Fonts and editorial images are served by this website. Social-media links open external websites when you choose to follow them; Facebook and Instagram apply their own notices. [CONFIRM THE BROWSER-STORAGE CONSENT OR EXEMPTION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LAUNCH JURISDICTION].

Access, hosting and sharing

Contact responses are available to authorised editorial staff. Running the published site may involve hosting, database, storage, email and security providers acting under appropriate arrangements. [LIST THE ACTUAL PROVIDERS, PURPOSES AND HOSTING COUNTRIES]. Do not assume a provider or international transfer is covered until those arrangements have been confirmed.

We do not publish a private pitch merely because it was submitted. Contributor credits, biographies, portraits and published stories are public editorial material; publication permissions should be agreed separately. Information may also need to be disclosed when required by applicable law.

Retention and security

At present, contact responses remain in the CMS until authorised staff delete them; automated retention/deletion is not implemented. Before launch, set and enforce [CONTACT ENQUIRY RETENTION PERIOD AND CRITERIA], [TECHNICAL LOG RETENTION] and [BACKUP RETENTION AND DELETION PROCESS]. Editorial agreements and published work may require a different, documented retention schedule.

Staff access is restricted by authentication and CMS permissions. Production hosting, secure connections, backups and incident handling must be configured and checked before launch. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure; please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive material.

Your choices and rights

Email hi@newqueer.com to ask about information relating to you or to request correction or deletion. Depending on the applicable law and circumstances, you may also have rights to access information, restrict or object to processing, receive certain information in a portable form, or withdraw consent where consent is the basis used. These rights are subject to relevant legal conditions; withdrawing consent does not affect earlier lawful processing.

We may need proportionate information to verify a request. [IDENTIFY THE RESPONSIBLE DATA-PROTECTION AUTHORITY, COMPLAINT CONTACT AND APPLICABLE RESPONSE DEADLINES]. You may be able to complain to the authority responsible for your country or our establishment.

Changes and contact

We will revise this notice when our services or handling of information changes and show the revision date on this page. Questions about privacy can be sent to hi@newqueer.com.

The universe, on our terms.
